Area: Gunnison Rural

There is no shortage of outstanding recreational opportunities in Rural Gunnison County. Home to more than 750 miles of mountain biking trails, the Curecanti National Recreation Area, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park and miles of Gold Medal fishing.

For water enthusiasts, Gunnison Valley offers great boating as well. The Taylor River and the Gunnison River are both popular whitewater rafting options each spring and early summer. The Gunnison Whitewater Park offers a chance to practice on man-made features. The real prize in the local boating culture is the flat water on the Blue Mesa. It is enormous and offers the opportunity to wakeboard, water ski, windsurf, and flat-water kayak.
