The focal point of the north end of the Gunnison Valley is Crested Butte. Originally a mining town in the late 1800s, Crested Butte has grown to become called the best ski town in the country, Crested Butte, Colorado and is often referred to as, “one of the hidden gems in the country”. Sitting at 8,885 feet above sea level, Crested Butte is home to approximately fewer than 2,000 permanent residents in a National Historic District. With many annual festivals from art, to music, to the beautiful wildflowers surrounding the town in the annual wildflower festival, Crested Butte offers entertainment year-round.
